When James was just getting MC Homes started, he didn’t have this incredible team by his side on day one. Specifically, there wasn’t an in-house design team helping to create the luxury touches you’ve grown accustomed to seeing.
If you’ve taken a gander at our gallery page, you’ve surely seen that we put immense effort into the design of both the interior and exterior of our builds.
Yet even though James didn’t have the team he has today, he did have expert collaborators to help guide the design work for those earlier luxury home builds.
One of those collaborators is Interior Designer Eric Ross.
James recruited Eric for his sharp eye and obvious expertise. Eric, knowing James’ vision and capability, was happy to assist in these efforts, knowing that the relationship would be a two-way street.
Eric was establishing his own business, serving clients in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. He became the preferred designer for many luxury homeowners (whose contractors did not have the benefit of an in-house design team).
As their respective businesses grew, Eric’s attention was driven toward his growing Nashville client-base where he is now based.
In a recent interview, Eric stated, “James knows what his role is, which is to make the thing come out of the ground and finish it well. Then he lets me really pursue my role, which is what things are going to look like in terms of finishes and the colors. Also, he’s interested in details and understanding how to integrate those into a big project.”
According to Eric, this is not the norm with a lot of contractors. “A lot of builders will say ‘We can’t do that.’ He [James] really does try to find a way to accommodate old world details in modern construction.”
As their respective businesses grew more independent, James decided to build his own in-house design team. He realized the benefits, and results, that came from designers, builders and other contractors working together on a regular basis.
However, that hasn’t prevented an occasional collaboration from taking place if the stars align. When Eric was looking for inspiration for subjects for his upcoming second book, a much-anticipated follow-up to his Enduring Southern Homes book from 2019, Eric and James reconnected for a design-build on a luxury lakefront home in our Eagle Landing subdivision on Kentucky Lake.
The results from this build are truly exceptional. Eric took his typical “classical” style and pushed it to an extreme with a number of less-than-conventional design elements, such as the many bold wallpaper choices in the different rooms throughout the home; a decision some homeowners might be reluctant to do.
This luxury lake house is a wonderful call back to the early collaborations of two aspiring creators with a unique vision. A vision that we at MC Homes now bring to every project we take on. When you choose MC Homes as your builder, you are going to get the best in quality and design, no matter what your build requires.
